It seems like a more pure light, with the older bulbs being more yellow. The LED bulbs say they're supposed to last 10 years, whi is another bonus. I doubt we'll even be in this house for 10 more years, as we've been looking to get into a better house for us.

I have actually enjoying WFH as well! I can work in jeans or even

That is because, in the US, those decisions are mostly being made at

has also asked that we not gather in groups. Enforcement on that last

We are allowed to be out in public just as long as we are distancing

church or two for holding in-person services and other large-group gatherings.

There's a lot more consistency here. As for types of business, there's a li of "high risk" businesses that were forced to close - basically places where there's likely large scale close contact or high people traffic. Other businesses work on a case by case basis, provided they adhere to the social distancing rules. Some businesses trade with restrictions on the number of people in store, some have gone to online orders only, some have closed down for the time being. Many have added online offerings to their traditional methods.
And some businesses in the "prohibited" category are still trading, by ceasi only those activities that are prohibited. For example, many cafes have switched to offering take away coffee and food, which is allowed, but have stopped their sit in dining. Even pubs have taken to offering take away/hom delivery of their meals, which is a new thing, because pubs are very much a in tradition for dining.

Another has been updating the lighting on my light duty hobby / workbench. i would like to put a bright LED bar on a swing arm to adjust where light is needed. There's an old magnifier lamp at my father's house in the basement, a nd it would be a perfect host to have the flourescent ring bulb replaced with LED strips.
We have been swapping over to LED "daylight" bulbs, especially in the
rooms we use more often and for hobby stuff - LOVE them!!!
I installed a 24 inch fixture that puts out 3900 lumens. I have to
mount it further up from it's current position because of it's
brightness.

I thought of buying an HT at the Russellville Hamfest in early March, where I did a forum, but decided not to.
When I told the attendees that "even though I operated 'internet
radio', at least my ham radio license isn't just 'a sheet of paper'". I got applause for that statement.

So, I turned it on, and I can hear it fine, and I can 'trigger' the repeater, but they can't hear me. :(

Randers, when you say you're "building" a BBS, do you mean you're writing the actual BBS software or are you using an existing BBS software?
I got the Hakko FR-301.
I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet. 8( So I don't know it it would work well with one hand, but it looks like it might.
Sorry, not good language. Should've said I'm starting a BBS using Synchronet. Although having said that, I am toying with the idea of writing some BBS software. Back in the day I started coding some BBS software from scratch in Turbo Pascal, and put a good years worth of work into it, but lost interest like most other folk when the internet really took off. Unfortunately lost all the code a decade ago.
My soldering iron (and feeder) are Hakky brand. I found the Hakko 373-11 feeder on ebay and it works perfectly with the FX-888D. I'll take a hard look at the FR-301, thanks.
I asked because I have always wondered how difficult it would be. I'm a C# developer by profession so I feel like that's a nice head start. I'm sure there are lots communication standards to learn, protocol wise, but once you have the basic routines written, the rest of it would fall into place.

Except mine came with a wire ball to help clean off the soldering iron tip. I think it works fairly well.

What type were you working with? T8? T12?
.and I guess you are using Type A LEDs?
Did you remove the old ballast entirely? If so, I suppose your LEDs are the Type B?
I just had a couple of ballasts blow out on me for my fluorescents.
There are two ballasts per 4-bulb 8-foot fixture. For now, there is
still enough light with just 2 of the remaing bulbs in the fixture.
But the naked fixture (no covers) looks like a work-in-progress with
the other 2 bulbs removed.
Do you find any noticeable radio interference near the LEDs?

I will be replacing the flourescents in my garage soon. My garage is actually a 32x24 pole building next to the house with one wide door.
It originally had a couple of bulbs on the trusses, however I replaced them with larger light fixtures. When the weather gets below freezing, they don't always light up right away, or they slowly warm up. LED's don't have that problem, and i no longer have to fuss with ballasts.

You have to be a member of the ARRL to take part in that. There isn't anything vulgar, but participants do get a nice certificate. I've been through it twice.
Maybe circumstances arise that preclude buying equipment.
Maybe some people just want the challenge of taking the test (with some notion of possibly getting on air at an open-ended time) and nothing

I have a family friend who is still a very active ham operator now in
his 90's. VE3IWY. I *know* that he has been eager for me to get a license. His collection of radio equipment is very interesting. We
share many interests in computer stuff. I know that he would have taken
to packet radio just for the experience had he learned about it sooner.

I bought a TNC at the Memphis Hamfest in 1998, and it sat in the closet
for 2-4 years. I still have it, but no rig to work with it. Otherwise, I could possibly set up a packet radio door on the BBS.
